Tristan (boy)

• Now here's a perfectly underused, timeless boy name. Notice I said boy name though as this name doesn't sound unisex to me at all. Tristan is a name from Celtic folklore and one that conjures up that image of a handsome, chivalrous kind of guy.
• this was the name of a friend who died of cancer at an early age.  He brought so much to the world in such a short time. 
• Love it because it's mythical yet strong; unique yet not weird.  I know it means 'sad' but that doesn't bother me because 95% of people on this planet are not name freaks like us and wouldn't know the meaning if it hit them in the nose.
• my oldest son, and it suits him as the oldest for he is the responsalbe one and I love the King Author legend that tristian was one of the knights!
• Legend of the Falls. Unusual name, once again can't come up with any derogatory nicknames
• I've just always liked the name - and apparently it means strong or something which is cool  
• the real name of the guy who played Robert Scorpio on General Hospital; I had never heard the name until then.
• It sounds so romantic and I love the historic aspects of it.
• Tristan has always been one of my favorite names, and more so after seeing Brad Pitt (Tristan Ludlow)in Legends Of The Fall a few years ago.

Tristan is a Frenchization of a Celtic name, probably closer to "Drostan." It's original meaning is unknown, but is has come to be associated with the French word triste, meaning "sad," probably because of the tragic figure in the medieval romance "Tristan and Isolde." Suddenly this name got submitted to me in droves after the movie Legends of the Fall came out on video, where Brad Pitt played a character named Tristan!
